The mol-ecule of the title compound, C(18)H(13)N(3)O(5), displays an E configuration with respect to the C=N double bond. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring and the naphthyl system is 1.1 (2)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network.

In the title complex, [Cu(C(14)H(9)ClN(2)O(3))(C(5)H(5)N)], the Cu(II) ion exhibits a distorted trans-CuN(2)O(2) square-planar geometry arising from the O,O,N-tridentate ligand and a pyridine mol-ecule. An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond occurs. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-actions generate a chain. The crystal studied was an inversion twin.

The title Schiff base, C(14)H(14)N(2)O(2), is close to being planar (r.m.s. deviation for the non-hydrogen atoms = 0.052 Å) and an intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond generates an S(6) ring. In the crystal, the moleucles are linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, giving rise to helical chains propagating along the c axis of the tetra-gonal unit cell.
